This is a list of what you will need if you are going to try and represent yourself in litigation, be it family, financial or other litigation.

1) Most important determination and will to work hard.

2) Some level of office or business skills and a little college or equivalent.

3) PC or word processor -- Windows capable machine is preferred.

4) A letter quality printer for the PC

5) Copy machine or ready access to one.

6) Copy of the Court Rules for your court (state or federal).

7) Copy of the local rules.

8) Copy of a legal dictionary -- Barrons for $11 is quite adequate.

9) Appropriate book on your type of case -- see our list and also our book and software reviews

10) Reasonable access to statutes, laws, regulations and case law.

11) A bright and quality attorney to advise you and to review and edit papers.

12) A supply of envelopes and supplies, including certified mail and return receipt forms from the post office.

At our Pro Se Resource Center we have all but number 1 and 2 -- but we can help you with those also -- if you have the strong desire. Our ALA's (Approved Legal Advisors ) are attorneys who we have checked out and are above average in ability.
